Val comes from a family of Elvaret aristocrats in the Kin capital city of Ûdáelo, where his love for humankind made him something of a social pariah. He escaped the quarantine placed upon him by his parents and traveled into human lands to seek an end to the war between peoples. He caught the attention of a Taelic noblewoman who took him under her wing so that they might fight this injustice together. Working under her guidance, Val encounters the Rift Walkers and hastily decides to join them—for better or for worse.
